Geology Technician AngloGold Ashanti (AGA)


AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents.   AGA employs over 62,000 people globally.  In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager.  Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%.  The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.
Located in the Laverton region, AngloGold Ashanti Australia's Sunrise Dam is one of Western Australia's premier gold mines. This open pit and underground operation employs more than 600 people and produces approximately 350,000 oz of gold per annum. Operating on an attractive 8/6 fly-in fly-out roster, Sunrise Dam boasts excellent accommodation and facilities.
We are now seeking a Geology Technician to join our Exploration team at Sunrise Dam Gold Mine. This role is a based on a FIFO 8/6 roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.
Accountable to the Senior Geology Technician, this role is responsible for providing assistance to Geologists and other key exploration staff, primarily with Diamond Drill Core Processing and QA/QC activities.
The main tasks of the role include:
  • Process diamond core including mark-up, SGs, mag-sus and core cutting
  • Conduct QAQC sample preparation as required
  • Storage, archiving and cataloguing of sample pulps, residues, drill core and miscellaneous samples
  • Operate field computers including data entry of drill hole and sample information
  • Operate and maintain vehicles and other equipment safely and as required by the appropriate rules and procedures
  • Complete all tasks in accordance with all relevant safety instructions, procedures and rules and the Duty of care for employees as legislated
  • Attend and participate in safety and toolbox meetings, training courses and inductions as required
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Physically capable of performing tasks requiring considerable amount of lifting and manual handling
  • Tolerance to heat, dust and extreme environmental conditions
  • Good numeracy, literacy and communication skills
  • Good understanding of OH&S in the workplace
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Current WA drivers licence
  • Forklift ticket and Geoscience Field Practices Certificate or equivalent would be highly regarded
  • Previous Diamond drill core processing experience (if not qualified as above)
