Senior Advocacy Program Associate

Background:

The Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) is a regional non-governmental organization which serves as a coordinating body of twenty five National Committees of Parliamentarians on Population and Development.

AFPPD seeks to generate support and cooperation among Asian parliamentarians in the areas of population and development, and related fields. It commits to educate, motivate, involve and mobilize parliamentarians on the linkages between increasing population and issues such as reproductive health, family planning, food security, water resources, sustainable development, environment, ageing, urbanization, migration, HIV/AIDS, and gender equality.

Position Summary:

The Senior Advocacy Program Officer will assist the Executive Director in the overall management and implementation of the regional and in-country advocacy project on ICPD POA which constitutes the most comprehensive project initiative of AFPPD from 2013 onward. The job entails overseeing the smooth implementation of various advocacy components of the project even when certain project team members are off for country missions. Big part of the job is to coordinate with team members from program units and Administrative/Finance units as well.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.To ensure that the annual work plan is translated into viable quarterly plan both at the level of team and individual plan, and tracked down in the course of implementation;

2.To develop and implement functional project monitoring and evaluation scheme;

3.To ensure timely submission of quarterly and year-end project reports (narrative and financial reports)

4.To initiate process documentation of the project that will highlight good practices in the course of implementing the annual work plan

5.Ensure that coordination mechanism is effectively in-placed among and between national committees and the AFPPD secretariat;

6.Support the Executive Director in regional level strategic planning including monitoring and overseeing all proposals, budgets, Annual Work Plan and other reports.

7.To undertake other related tasks as requested by the Executive Director

Qualifications:

Education:
• Master Degree in Development Studies, Public Health, International Affairs, Political Science, Social Science, Public Administration or other related fields.

Work Experience:
•Up to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in regional/international in related field.

•Experience in advocacy, communications, capacity building and technical assistance is desirable.

•Proven experience and knowledge in International Development, Gender, and Population and Development issues is an asset.

•Extensive knowledge of UN’s policies, procedures and practice is an asset.

•Ability to work as a part of a team, sharing information and coordinating efforts within the team

•Able to adjust in a diverse working environment and has the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

•Full computer literacy in internet searching and Microsoft Office programmes i.e. MS-Word, MS-Excel and MS-Power Point.

Language Requirements:

•Proficiency in English in both oral and writing format

Report Directly to: Executive Director

Duty station: Bangkok

Contract period: 1 year contract (renewable)
