Position Description

Design engineer for the F/A-18 Airframe/Systems Team. Primary responsibilities include providing on site subsystem engineering and technical support of F/A-18 A-G flight test operations at PAX River, MD. Analyze and resolve aircraft system discrepancies that include assembly anomalies and unique system hardware installations. Support flight test development, design, and integration of airframe system hardware. Supports the development, maintenance or modification of system components. Represent engineering on the Materials Review Board (MRB). Respond to questions and concerns from manufacturing and engineering disciplines. Be a liaison between flight test, manufacturing operations and engineering integrated product teams. Evaluate engineering and manufacturing data to determine corrective actions necessary for chronic errors. Determine how to prevent problem recurrence. Work across all functions to provide corrective action.

Typical Education/Experience

Level 3 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Level 4 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. Other Job related information

The candidate should have a minimum of 5 years experience in an aircraft subsystem design discipline. Technical expertise in the operation, problem analysis, troubleshooting and interface with the following F/A-18 systems: Fuel, ECS, Hydraulics, Mechanical Flight Controls, Landing Gear, Egress, Secondary Power, Engine/Aircraft interface is desirable. Strong design skills in system definition utilizing UG are required. Experience with 'hardware' programs (whether advanced or production) will be considered an advantage. Also, must have good communication and interpersonal skills and be comfortable in meeting with customer, suppliers, other IPT team members, and program management personnel. Position requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance (Interim Clearance (Pre-Start), Final Clearance (Post-Start), and maintain Interim and Final Clearance throughout period of employment.
