Research Assistant, Afghanistan 2014: Opportunities in Crisis, Asia Programme
Chatham House is looking for a Research Assistant to provide support to senior staff to the Asia Programme, and to support a project on Afghanistan. Over an 18-month period the project will engage with Afghan, regional and western policy makers to explore issues and propose options relating to reconciliation, elections, development, relations with Afghanistan's immediate neighbourhood and their implications for western governments and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, organized and keen to form an integral part of a team. They will have some or all the following skills / capabilities:
- Proven interest in Afghanistan and regional politics
- Minimum Master’s degree in politics, international relations or related discipline
- 2 years of project management experience
- Experience of working with diverse stakeholders and liaising with funders
- Experience organizing and running international events
- Confident writing and speaking skills, and experience communicating records findings and policy recommendations to a variety of audiences
- Excellent time management skills required
- Understanding of the Afghan political environment and international policy communities
- Knowledge of a foreign language an asset (Dari/Pashto)
