Internship project background and aims:

PATH's Advocacy and Public Policy (APP) team works to improve global health by increasing awareness and support for global health priorities and partnering with policymakers, coalitions, and other influential individuals and groups.  The Geneva arm of the APP department is seeking to recruit an intern to assist with the development and early implementation of a global advocacy strategy.  The global advocacy strategy will provide a framework to consolidate relationships with Geneva-based global health partners and policymakers, identify policy-related meetings and other fora for engagement, and seek to influence a set of global policy and advocacy priorities.

PATH is looking for a clear thinker and communicator with good organizational, research and writing skills to support the development of the global advocacy strategy.  Candidates with a background in global public health and/or development will be particularly welcome. The opportunity will involve desk research work, the consolidation of key documents, tools and references related to the specific advocacy and policy focus areas that are currently being identified and some key stakeholder identification.  

Internship’s goals and learning objectives:

  1. Research skills for stakeholder and issue mapping to feed into the global advocacy strategy development.
  2. Analytical skills for the development of a landscape analysis across specific focus areas including the post Millennium Development Goals Framework, advancing the supply and demand of commodities for reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health, and the global vaccine landscape.
  3. Policy development by helping to identify specific policy asks based on the landscape analysis.
  4. Tools development through the production of briefs, background to policy papers and other advocacy materials as required. 

Skills to be developed and/or expanded during internship:

  • Research and analysis skills will be built on while undertaking the issue and stakeholder mapping.
  • Policy analysis and advocacy skills will be built through the internship.
  • Communications skills both verbal and written will be built through the internship. 

Proposed activities:

  • The development of a landscape analysis across specific focus areas including:
    • The post Millennium Development Goals Framework.
    • Advancing the supply and demand of commodities for reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health, and the global vaccine landscape.

Required Skills

  • Education or experience in global health and development, preferably with an interest in reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH).
  • Currently enrolled or recent graduate of a Master’s program.
  • Work experience in public policy, communication or research related field, preferably in an international health and/or development context.
  • Experience with research, mapping and producing reports.
  • Some experience working or living in a multicultural environment and good networking skills.
  • Ability to summarize complex health and development issues for a broader audience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Editing skills an advantage.
  • A team player who enjoys working in a diverse environment, establishing harmonious and effective working relationships as part of a close-knit team.
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently while remaining an actively engaged team member.

Internship Stipend: CHF 3000 per month.

Duration of Internship: Early January through late April.

Must have legal authorization to work in Geneva.
