Location: The job will be based in central London although some international travel will most likely be required.

The Law & Development Partnership (LDP) is a niche but growing firm that provides high-level strategic advice and support to developing country governments and donors. We have two directors, six other members of staff and a strong network of associates who work with us on specific projects. For over twelve years we have worked at the forefront of international development to improve access to justice, good governance and economic opportunity for some of the world poorest. LDP specialises in four core areas:
• Justice and security
• Private sector development
• Governance and institutional development
• Regional economic integration
We work in complex environments, including fragile and post-conflict states, and multi-institutional and multi-sector settings. LDP provides advice and assistance in policy, strategy development, monitoring and evaluation, and programme implementation. We work with our clients to develop practical, value for money, locally owned solutions that work.
The role
Working directly to LDP’s directors you will be responsible for (i) managing a selection of our on-going programmes and (ii) contributing to business development through management of a selection of opportunities and proposals. We are a small firm, which means you will need to have a flexible approach and be willing to make a contribution in areas outside your formal job description, as required.
(i) Programme Management
Programme management of a selection of our on-going long term and short term programmes and projects. This may include responsibility for managing key framework contracts. Key aspects of programme management include building and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients, partners and potential associates; ensuring programme and project objectives and expectations are delivered; managing programme and project budgets; and contributing to the capture and sharing of best practice programme and project management within LDP.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Contract and manage subcontractors including: negotiating fee rates; communication of our expectations; on-going management of inputs, etc.
• Responsibility for financial management of assigned programmes and projects, including ensuring they are within budget, and ensuring timely invoicing and payment of sub-contractors
• Act as the main point of contact for programme and project stakeholders, including the client and sub-contractors, and manage overall programme and project communications
• Oversee the logistical operation of projects including ensuring the smooth deployment of teams overseas
• Provide technical inputs into ongoing projects including for example - research, analysis, writing, presenting and possible fieldwork
• Support the delivery of reports / documents, including through editing and formatting
• Oversee programme knowledge management through our cloud based filing system and ensure knowledge generated through the programme is fed into our overall internal knowledge management system
(ii) Business Development
Contribute to the pursuit of new opportunities and contracts for LDP by managing a selection of opportunities and proposals and contributing to strategic marketing, as required. Key aspects of business development include building and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients, partners and potential associates; managing and coordination the positioning plans for current and new leads; managing and coordinating the preparation of proposals from early stages through to contract negotiations; contributing to the ongoing strategic business development planning of LDP.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Act as the proposal manager for tenders (expressions of interest and proposals), including:
o Co-ordinate the bidding process and manage inputs to ensure bids are submitted on time and in line with the terms of reference and LDP standards
o Contribute to proposal development and drafting including: budgets (estimation of resources needed to achieve project goals); background research; compiling relevant experience, and formatted CVs
o Manage the relationship with bidding partners and the consortium including obtaining required information / documentation from partners
o Liaise with clients, obtaining clarifications and further information concerning a bid when required
• Support the development of business relationships including with clients, partners and potential associates
• Contribute to identification of market trends, gaps and niches
• Work with LDP colleagues to identify and take forward new consultancy opportunities
• Develop opportunities through management of a selection of our framework contracts by: actively tracking and managing pipelines/possible opportunities so that LDP is well placed to respond; maintaining good relationships with consortium partners; and attending consortium meetings
