Trade Policy Officer

BEUC - European Consumers Organisation

Reporting to the Director General, the position will involve:

  • Providing intelligence, information and advice to BEUC and BEUC member organisations on the development of the TTIP negotiations between the EU and the US;
  • Preparing consultation and position papers as well as technical briefings on these issues;
  • Representing BEUC and its member organisations in external meetings and conferences;
  • Maintaining and developing contacts with EU and US officials, MEPs, and other stakeholders involved in the TTIP negotiations.

The main qualifications we are looking for are:

  • A Master degree preferably in Economics or International Trade;
  • A strong technical knowledge and understanding of trade related issues with particular emphasis on consumer specific conditions and implications; 
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in public affairs;
  • The ability to write and communicate well in English, knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage;
  • An initial working knowledge of the EU institutions;
  • A proven ability to understand, appreciate and explain the technical issues which arise in the international trade area, both for bilateral and multilateral agreements;
  • A proven interest in understanding, appreciating and articulating the consumer interest;
  • Ability to work well with people from different backgrounds; 
  • Team player; 
  • Ability to perform under pressure; 
  • Well organised.
