Packaging Co-Op Intern

Diageo is the world’s largest drinks manufacturer.  Global Supply has 9,000 people (1/3 of all employees), and about 2000 of them are in the US and Canada.  The Supply organization is responsible for 
 
  • Innovation, commercialization, renovation, quality and consumer care of all of our products (Brand Technical Center)
  • Buying all of the raw materials we use to make our products (Procurement)
  • Converting those raw materials into beer, wines and spirits (Distillation and Engineering)
  • Packaging all of our SKUs (Manufacturing) and
  • Shipping them all over the world (Supply chain development and planning, Customer operations, Logistics)
 
Purpose of Role:     
Each summer Diageo offers full-time paid three-month internships for students currently pursuing their undergraduate degree in 
 
  • Food Science
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Distilling
  • Biology/Microbiology
  • Chemistry
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Procurement or
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Safety
Interns work in Plainfield, IL at Diageo North America’s Brand Technical Centers (located adjacent to Diageo’s largest manufacturing plant, and just outside of Chicago).  
 
Key Outputs:    
As a summer intern, you will get first-hand experience with our work, our people, our values, and our culture. Summer interns are given real responsibilities and challenges with projects that have an immediate impact on the business.  Throughout the summer, interns are given multiple opportunities to interact with senior management through both their project work and networking opportunities.  All interns also receive individual coaching and training from their immediate manager, and the opportunity to show results. Interns will be provided with high visibility and great exposure to many parts of the supply chain by interacting with suppliers as well as Diageo manufacturing sites.
 
Qualifications and Experience Required:     
In order to be eligible you must have:
 
  • Unrestricted US work authorization
  • Reached Legal Drinking Age by the time the internship starts (US Legal Drinking Age is 21 years)
  • At least two years of coursework towards a Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management, Food Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Procurement or Distilling,
  • A minimum current GPA of 3.0. 
  • Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills
  • Strong problem solving skills; ability to gather and analyze data
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to communicate with all levels in organization
  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects to conclusion
  • A demonstrated interest and ability to pursue a career in supply chain management, engineering, food sciences, procurement or manufacturing management.
  • Willingness to travel as needed throughout the internship.
