Coordinator, Development, Outreach and Strategic Events

The Coordinator, Development, Outreach and Strategic Events, within the Center for Conservation and Government, provides coordination for division fundraising, outreach, reporting and evaluation efforts and also provides support to coordinate Conservation International's (CI's) participation at major international and national policy meetings and conferences, including the CBD and UNFCCC, among others. The position will report to CCG’s Director, Strategic Engagement and Program Development.

The primary duties of this position will be to work with the Director to coordinate division-wide efforts to implement the fundraising strategy through tracking timelines and workplans, organizing information, helping to develop and edit outreach materials including web content, and providing support in development of presentations. The position will also coordinate reporting and evaluation of division activities to support fundraising and communications efforts.

Additionally, this position provides support for CI's presence at international meetings so that engagement is logistically effective and achieves organizational goals and outcomes. In this capacity, tasks will include securing participants' accommodation, meeting facilities, catering and other event-specific requirements, and coordinating planning meetings and preparatory internal communications. In addition to supporting the planning and implementation of several major meetings each year, this position will provide coordination for development of the annual calendar of strategic events for the institution. This position will also fulfill other administrative duties such as travel arrangements, preparing check requests, travel reports, filing, faxing, and purchasing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fundraising: Provide coordination for CCG fundraising strategy development and implementation. Support CCG staff in proposal/presentation development, donor engagement, and follow up. Coordinate donor reporting, timelines and donor meetings.
  • Outreach, Reporting and Evaluation: Provide coordination for division communications and messaging efforts. Provide support to CCG staff in development of external communications products (including web and annual report) and internal communications (Intranet, Webinars, etc). Coordinate division reporting and evaluation to support fundraising efforts, communications and strategy development.
  • Strategic Events: Support coordination of staff from across CI to prepare for strategic engagement in highest priority meetings including meeting preparation and associated side events. Research and secure appropriate hotel accommodations, meeting facilities, local transportation and other logistics for CI participants. Coordinate preparatory meetings and internal preparatory communications. As required, coordinate and provide administrative support at priority events.
  • Calendar: Provide support in development of and regularly update annual calendar and timeline of international events for the organization. Coordinate process for prioritizing institutional engagement in events, including research on strategic events for engaging on climate, water, food and species securities.
  • Administration: Track budgets for key events, perform necessary administrative duties and logistical/technical/programmatic support. Fulfill other administrative duties such as travel arrangements, travel reports, filing, faxing, and purchasing.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is located in CI-Headquarters in Arlington, VA.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • 2-4 years of related work experience
  • Understanding of key conservation issues and the nonprofit sector.
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills (in particular writing and editing), with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse teams in many regions of the world and to engage in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Ability to effectively track and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Ability to quickly absorb content specific to key conservation issues.
  • Ability to effectively establish priorities and work under time constraints
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access)

Preferred:

  • Bachelors degree in environmental sciences, public policy, natural resource management, international development or related field
  • Fluency in Spanish, French, or Portuguese.
