General Overview The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is a global nonprofit organization working for a stronger and more effective United Nations. Established in 1946, we represent and coordinate a membership of over 100 United Nations Associations and their thousands of members.

We work to build a better world by strengthening and improving the United Nations, through the engagement of people who share a global mindset and support international cooperation – global citizens.

Our organization has offices at the United Nations in both New York and Geneva, and hosts interns in both locations.

Position Description – Website and Communications Intern WFUNA is launching a new website in early 2011. The Website and Communications Intern will assist our Communications Team with the continued development of WFUNA’s new website.

Responsibilities include: • Assisting the technical team, the design team and the staff responsible for content development. • Working with our professional designer to implement the new design for the website, including sourcing images. • Working with staff to develop new sections of the website, including setting-up functional pieces such as blogs, forums, calendars…etc. • Regularly updating the website and coordinating content to guarantee uniformity, consistency and quality. • Assisting with some additional aspects of WFUNA’s communications strategy as well, such as creating and sending mass online mailings and other outreach.

Some of the opportunities: 1. The Website and Communications Intern will be involved with the creative and technical aspects of developing a new website for a well-established and respected organization that is going through a time of growth and transformation. 2. The WFUNA Secretariat is located at UN Headquarters in New York. The Website and Communications Intern will have access to the United Nations building, conferences and events and resources such as the UN Library. 3. This position offers an excellent networking opportunity – the Website and Communications Intern will be able to make contact with professionals working at the United Nations and within the related NGO community. 4. This position may be eligible for course credit from the academic institution in which the Website and Communications Intern is currently enrolled, provided the position description meets the criteria for credit set forth by the academic institution.

Additional requirements: Experience with website design, development and administration is required. Coursework and/or interest in world issues, experience in media website outreach and non-profit experience is beneficial. The ideal candidate should have experience suitable to deal in a multi-tasked environment, is self-motivated and possess strong problem solving ability. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of a foreign language is a plus.
