Legal Adviser EMF

The European Mortgage Federation (EMF) is the voice of the mortgage credit industry at European level and the key industry stakeholder vis-à-vis the European Institutions on all issues relating to mortgage credit, and it is currently seeking a Legal Adviser to join its Secretariat based in Brussels.

Key responsibilities for this position will include the monitoring and reporting of European Institution initiatives that impact on mortgage lenders’ activities, and the coordination of and attendance at internal and external meetings focusing on such issues.

Job description:

  • Supporting the Head of Legal Affairs with respect to the work of the Legal Affairs Department.
  • Analysis, follow-up and preparation of briefing papers on all relevant EU initiatives which concern or could impact on the activities of European mortgage credit institutions.
  • Preparation for, participation in and follow-up of committee meetings (drafting of agendas, working papers, minutes, briefings).
  • Researching and drafting position papers to support the Federation’s lobbying activities.
  • Producing surveys, studies and analysis of Europe’s mortgage credit markets.
  • Assisting with the coordination of the European Banking Industry Committee Working Group on Mortgage Credit.
  • Attendance at external meetings and provision of feedback to members on those meetings.
  • Liaising with representatives of the European Institutions and other stakeholders with an interest in housing finance.

Your profile:

  • University degree in Law or equivalent qualification in a related field.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the European Institutions and their functioning, and of EU Law.
  • Excellent analytical and drafting skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues to a diverse audience.
  • Native standard written and spoken English is essential and will be tested.
  • Other language skills (French in particular) would be a distinct asset.
  • Previous experience of working in the European Parliament and knowledge of financial services would be a distinct advantage.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • A proven team worker.
