Open Position: Manager, Environmental Chemistry

Purpose: The Manager, Environmental Chemistry will provide leadership and oversight to Barrick’s environmental programs and activities in the areas of geochemical and water quality assessments. Reporting to the Director, Environmental Sciences, the position will team with the Corporate Environmental Sciences Group and Environment Department to meet the critical technical assessment needs of Barrick’s other corporate, regional and site groups.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assuring geochemical and water quality assessments for new and expanded mining projects meet jurisdictional, international and corporate standards and guidelines
  • Managing the scoping and contracting of geochemical assessments for acid rock drainage and metal leaching and water quality baseline assessments for Barrick Capital Projects
  • Supporting Corporate and Regional Approvals Groups with geochemical and water quality impact assessments for new and expanded mining operations
  • Supporting Corporate Capital Projects and Corporate and Regional Operations Support Groups on identifying water quality and water treatment needs for existing mines and new and expanded mining projects
  • Supporting Corporate and Regional Mine Closure Groups on identifying water quality and water treatment needs for mine closures and post-closure site management
  • Engaging with and establishing partnerships with relevant professional organizations and non-government organizations
  • Assist in the planning, budgeting and forecasting of corporate environmental services for Barrick’s mineral exploration, project development, operation and site closures activities.

General:

  • Global Travel is expected to be 40-50%
  • Ability to speak Spanish would be an asset
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Approximately ten years progressive experience in geochemical characterizations and water quality assessments
  • Strong experience with impact mitigation planning and conducting geochemical and water quality monitoring programs covering a range of climatic and ecologic regimes.
  • An advanced degree (MS or PhD), ideally in Environmental Sciences, Sciences, or Engineering is required.
