Call for Candidates for DST/NRF SARChI Research Chair
The aim of the South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARChI) is to strengthen scientific research leadership and capacity in South African universities, in order to strengthen the development of a knowledge-based economy in South Africa. The University of the Western Cape (UWC) was awarded a number of Tier 1 Research Chairs and is hereby calling for candidates to fill this prestigious position for the following Chair:
Nuclear Science
The Research Chair should be an experienced dynamic researcher with an international reputation who will be expected to contribute strongly to the nuclear experimental research programmes at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) and at iThemba LABS. (www.tlabs.ac.za). The incumbent should have the vision and passion to advance the current programme of research and training at the two host institutions. Research activities at iThemba LABS centre on the 200 MeV open sector cyclotron with attached K600 magnetic spectrometer, the AFRODITE gamma-ray detector array and a large scattering chamber. There are plans for extensive expansion of the experimental facilities over the next decade. The Chair will be expected to play a leading role in research as well as in postgraduate training and supervision in nuclear science.
