Engine Calibration Engineer

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc (TEMA) is the alignment of Toyota's North American R&D and manufacturing operations, joining the operations, planning and technical functions. Established in April 2006, TEMA strengthens Toyota's North American customer focus, through improved supplier cooperation, overall speed, flexibility and attention to quality. TEMA headquarters in Erlanger, KY, house the Toyota Operations Center and the Toyota Planning Center. The main offices for the Toyota Technical Center are in Ann Arbor and Saline, MI. The Engine Calibration Engineer position is in the PTC department, located in Gardena, CA.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • As part of a team, participate in and lead engine control development activities for North American and global market vehicles.
  • Complete engine system calibration and testing in accordance with procedures to meet performance targets (emissions, fuel economy, power, drivability).
  • Develop new procedures and tools for testing, data analysis, and calibration.
  • Manage software and calibrations to meet development deadlines.
  • Prepare and manage calibration and resource schedules to meet development deadlines.
  • Conduct vehicle testing and development under extreme environmental conditions (hot, cold, high altitude)
  • Data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Generate and present technical reports.
  • Interface with other vehicle departments

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills to lead and report projects
  • Ability to work well in teams in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Experience with (up to 2 years) or interest in engine and vehicle development
  • Self motivated and responsible with willingness to work overtime to accomplish goals
  • Willingness to travel, both domestically and internationally (up to 25% may be required)
  • Possibility of long term assignment in Toyota Japan
  • Excellent driving record required
  • Experience with C/C++ and Matlab/Simulink is a plus, but not required
