BACKGROUND


The Global Communications Unit is responsible for communications activities of worldwide relevance to IUCN and is composed of a Media, Campaigns and Content team, a Marketing and Web team, and a Publications and Production team.

General Description:

The Webmaster is responsible for maintaining an exciting worldwide presence for IUCN on the Internet. The Webmaster coordinates the group of IUCN web managers around the world as well as interacting with communications and programme staff for the creation of web content. He or she acts as the main contact point for all web-related matters.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensure the smooth day to day running of the IUCN website system.

2. Update web content with the help of the Web Support Officer and other IUCN staff.

3. Create and maintain Web Content Management System (WCMS) training material, highlighting best practices.

4. Ensure optimal use of the WCMS by managing article categories, shortcuts, user accounts and profiles.

5. Provide web-management support and training to web managers and communications focal points throughout the organization.

6. Ensure visual identity and global communications standards are respected across the website, assisting with transformations where necessary.

7. Provide support and advice for the creation of external sites and intranet for IUCN projects.

8. Manage web agencies and liaise with external contractors and partners, in coordination with IT (Information Systems Unit).

9. Further develop IUCN's global web presence in coordination with IUCN regional and programme communication staff.

10. Propose and coordinate furher developments of IUCN's web platform and implement them in coordination with IT and external suppliers.

11. Measure page statistics and track website use.

12. Keep abreast of web and mobile related technological developments to propose new ways to promote IUCN's content.

13. Optimize Google adwords.

14. Help develop IUCN's social media strategy and support social media updates.

15. Manage the IUCN photo library and video library and work with IT to develop a new repository system.

16. Support the Publications team in coordination with IT to develop a new publications database.

17. Provide simple image editing and HTML page editing help for the Communications team.

18. Support the design of simple logos, buttons or page layouts for the website or other communications material.

REQUIREMENTS


• Experience:

3-5 years' experience managing a website;
Experience in working in a multinational, multicultural environment, either in a major company or international organization.

• Skills:

Project management and ability to handle numerous tasks at the same time;
Good knowledge of HTML, XML and JavaScript;
Good understanding of web technologies (web programming and on-line databases);
Image editing skills (Photoshop and/or Fireworks);
A good eye for web design;
Good understanding of Search Engine Optimization and online marketing techniques;
Experience with Google Analytics or any other analytic tool;
Ability to coordinate a network of people spread around the world;
Service mindset;
Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
Fluent written and spoken English; good knowledge of French and/or Spanish preferred;
Good knowledge of social media networks.

SALARY

The gross annual salary for this position is in the range from CHF 80'640 to CHF 100'800, subject to deductions for social security contributions and second-pillar pension, and before tax.
