With over 350 hours of in-house output a year, BBC Drama Production is making some of the most original, diverse and highly acclaimed television. These range from continuing drama such as Casualty, EastEnders, Holby City, and Doctors to series and serials such as Silent Witness, Luther and Silk, to name just a few!
The Assistant Script Editor reports to the Head of Talent Management in the first instance, and works in close conjunction with Script Editors to provide editorial and research support to the development team. You will identify and carry out research activities on any subject matter, assess and where appropriate contribute to the development of solicited script material, and provide general support across a range of output.
Drama production can involve long and unpredictable work patterns and pressure to meet tight schedules and therefore you must have a flexible approach to working.
As an experienced researcher you will demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of conventional and specialised sources of information and research techniques. You will also have practical experience of television production and understanding of script writing process. Beyond this you will have experience of script reading and writing script reports.
You will demonstrate sound editorial judgement and an ability to interpret editorial intentions. More generally you will have experience of establishing and maintaining office and administration systems, using final draft scriptwriting software and providing administrative support.
