BBDC Chief Executive Officer

Bermuda is a thriving, entrepreneurial, off-shore financial centre of excellence, whose core international business sectors are insurance, reinsurance, financial services, banking and telecommunications.  Bermuda Business Development Corporation (BBDC) is a newly formed public private enterprise, established to invest in and support the development and sustainability  of  “International Business”, the term  applied to  businesses located in Bermuda that conduct their operations world -wide.  This group of approximately 1,500 companies currently contributes between $1.3bn - $1.6bn  annually, to the national economy.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Chairman and Board of Directors and working closely with the business community and Government, the Chief Executive Officer will develop and execute a growth strategy that will bring new International Business and capital to Bermuda.  The strategy will include supporting existing International Business in developing and launching new products and accessing new markets, to attract new businesses and jobs to Bermuda.  

Required skill set and experience

This is a high profile, sales – focused role, ideally suited to executives with off-shore financial services experience gained in either the public or private sectors.  Candidates with experience leading an International Financial Centre, International Trade Development Organisation or National Agency responsible for foreign direct investment, will be strongly welcomed;  likewise, executives with an outstanding track record of business development within one of Bermuda’s main international sectors: insurance; financial services; or banking.

In addition, candidates will need to demonstrate the following attributes:

• Proven and demonstrable  experience in international business development gained within the international financial sector;
• Proven ability to meet and exceed performance targets in terms of revenue, product development, new capital and  job creation, as defined by the Board as part of the selection criteria;
• Possessing extensive personal networks and connections in major financial centres world-wide;
• Proven ability to set strategy and execute effectively;
• Executive level experience, working with a Board of Directors;
• Ability to  interact effectively with Governments and global investors;
• Aptitude and emotional intelligence to adapt to a multi – racial culture.
