The GNS News team has just moved to spectacular new offices in the heart of New Broadcasting House. Its mission is to provide a high quality, national and international news service for local radio programmes – particularly targeting Breakfast and Mid-morning. GNS is now part of the English Regions management structure, within BBC News. GNS-News has an experienced team of reporters and producers working closely with colleagues in Business, Parliament, Sport and Newsgathering. 

Role

The Editor GNS-News is editorially and managerially responsible to Head of Programmes in BBC English Regions for the delivery of the General News Service, working alongside Editor GNS-Programmes at New Broadcasting House, London.
 
The duties of the Editor are wide ranging and include overall editorial responsibility for the standard, content and style of GNS-News output in accordance with BBC policy. The post holder is also responsible for initiating, developing and running an effective planning service which meets local radio requirements. The role will form part of the senior editorial leadership team in Local Radio.

Requirements

The successful candidate will possess developed leadership and management skills, together with proven editorial judgement to a high standard, and experience of delivering a valued service. You will be able to demonstrate experience of successful change management and evidence of introducing new ways of thinking and working practices into the workplace. Possessing considerable enthusiasm, and an understanding of the needs of relevant internal and external audiences, you will have interpersonal and decision making skills of the highest level, coupled with the ability to establish credibility and maintain effective working relationships with senior contacts internal and external to the BBC. Excellent analytical, technical and financial skills are also essential.
