Department

PM – weekdays on R4 - offers sharp and creative coverage of the day’s news events, with interviews playing an important part of the programme. It provides serious and ambitious content with a hint of wit and has a strong relationship with its audience.  The team also produces the weekend  programme, Broadcasting House on Sunday, which to quote it’s presenter Paddy O’Connell, is a “state of mind”, offering creative coverage of the week’s news;  and iPM, a weekly companion programme to PM,  is where the expertise and insights of the Radio 4 audience “shape a programme that sees news differently”.

Role

6 month attachment/ftc to cover Maternity Leave.
 
As Editor, you’ll take editorial, managerial and financial responsibility for a team of journalists and support staff working on the PM, iPM and BH programmes for R4.  You’ll supervise the production of daily programmes and ensure they meet the policies and standards of the News Division as well as working with R4 to deliver the stations overall strategy and to maintain audience reach. You’ll also work closely with colleagues across the R4 sequence programmes to ensure resources are used efficiently and effectively

Requirements

You’ll have extensive experience in BBC News at a senior level, including successfully leading and managing change.   You’ll have substantive experience of people and budget management to make innovative and imaginative programmes as well making them in the most cost effective manner.  An understanding of the audience needs for the relevant programmes and the network on which they sit are essential.
