Process Engineer, Carbon Fibers at Hexcel

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the design, implementation and operation of mechanical and electromechanical systems used for the production of carbon fiber and associated materials. Responsible to develop and implement process conditions for new materials and for the purpose of realizing cost savings and improving quality. Other responsibilities of this position includes researching, troubleshooting, and improving manufacturing equipment, analyzing and monitoring carbon fiber processes/products, and managing and planning capital improvements.

Customer interface and support is required as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to the following:

· Analyze and interpret carbon fiber manufacturing techniques, procedures and processing conditions.

· Troubleshoot manufacturing process problems and implement corrective measures.

· Plan and direct efforts of maintenance and facility engineers in the improvement of manufacturing equipment or the expansion of manufacturing facilities.

· Assist in directing equipment repairs and upgrades.

· Provides concise design criteria and process constraints for facility expansions or improvements and assume responsibility for all new or improved equipment start up exercises and tests.

· Develop and implement carbon fiber processing conditions for new equipment and new materials. Manage qualification efforts required for new equipment, processes and materials. Provide training as necessary to operations personnel.

· Evaluate carbon fiber processing conditions and resultant material properties and troubleshoot as necessary utilizing SPC techniques. Assume full responsibility for managing process conditions to meet Process Control Document requirements and mechanical and physical properties.

· Other duties may be assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

· BS Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.

· Minimum of 3 years experience in carbon fiber or other continuous process industry.

· Proven ability to evaluate, develop and manage process parameters in the manufacture of products.

· Experience in Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma continuous improvement programs. Six Sigma Black Belt certification would a plus.

· Ability to manage capital projects.

· Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

· Current computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

· Experience with SPC and other statistical techniques.

· Experience with mechanical and electromechanical systems.
