Department

News Programmes is a multi-media department in News.  Its output includes 5Live, Asian Network News, HardTalk and World debates, Newsbeat and news on 1Xtra, Newsnight, Radio and Television Current Affairs, Today, WATO, PM,TWT and BH. The department is the home of original journalism serving audiences across a full range of BBC outlets and platforms.
 

Impact
 is an important central team of multi-media journalists in News Programmes. It is a highly skilled production resource, supporting collaboration and multi-media projects in the Department to the benefit of all output across News. The team includes broadcast and digital specialists, maintaining the dedicated Programme sites and bringing ambitious, innovative material to BBC News on TV, radio and online.News Programmes Impact has a vacancy for a SBJ to work primarily on Panorama as part of the multi-platform team.
 
 
Panorama is the BBC’s best known TV investigation programme and regularly breaks stories which lead the international and national news agenda. Two multi-platform producers ensure Panorama stories achieve maximum impact on the web, TV and radio – so increasing the reach of the programme’s journalism.

Role

You’ll be responsible for creating and publishing video and audio content and text articles, and reworking original programmes stories for the full range of BBC News outlets. While you will work as a valued and integral part of the programme production team and have a dotted line to the editor of Panorama, you are part of the wider Impact team. As such, your line manager is the Impact Editor and you may, at times, be deployed to other parts of the Impact team.

Requirements

As well as being an experienced journalist, we are looking for an imaginative, resourceful and creative candidate who understands multi-media working and has excellent technical as well as editorial skills. You will have a detailed understanding of the range of output in Programmes and Newsroom and how to rework material to suit their different agendas and audiences. You will also need strong ideas for original journalism as well as experience of working in News and Current Affairs. The person needed for this job must be highly flexible and ready to work with extremely sensitive material, both legally and editorially. They will also be good networkers willing and able to work closely with programmes staff on tough deadlines on a 24/7 basis. This position will require late and weekend working.
