Description:The Affiliate Support and Advocacy department (ASAD) of the ACLU's National Office in New York City is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Affiliate Management and Operations Program Associate.

OVERVIEW

The Affiliate Support and Advocacy department was established in 2002 to collaborate with the ACLU's 53 independent local affiliates and advance a cohesive nationwide organization. Since then, the department has significantly grown, comprising teams that advance policy advocacy, marketing and communications, management and operations, and fund development.

Reporting to the Director of Affiliate Management and Operations this position provides capacity building support to all affiliates, particularly those who are enrolled in the Strategic Affiliate Initiative (SAI), a special project within ASA which strengthens the infrastructure and capacity of several strategic affiliate state organizations. The Program Associate will help to identify critical areas for affiliate effectiveness and research and develop relevant management-related guides and tools, with a focus on financial growth and sustainability.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES

? Work collaboratively with ASA colleagues and affiliate staff to identify affiliate needs and assist them in building management and operations capacity, including, but not limited to, implementing best practices in financial management, staffing, planning, and board governance.
? Provide support in developing and modifying strategic plans and business plans.
? Analyze funding requests from SAI affiliates, make funding recommendations and ensure timely disbursement of funds.
? Review SAI affiliate reports to monitor implementation of activities described in business plans; prepare and circulate reports to the SAI project team and development staff.
? Ensure materials on the ACLU Intranet related to affiliate management and operations are kept current and relevant to affiliate needs.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
? Bachelor's Degree and at least 3 years' experience required. A graduate degree (MPA or related discipline) along with experience in nonprofit management and strategic planning are preferred.
? Experience reviewing and analyzing budgets and financial reports.
? Ability to analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data; prepare related reports and make recommendations based on data analysis.
? Familiarity with strategic planning and, general knowledge of board governance best practices, preferred.
? Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, excellent phone manner.
? Good problem solving skills.
? Excellent writing skills including the ability to draft clear and concise documents for diverse audiences.
? A team player who can manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and demonstrate grace under pressure.
? Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with diverse people and personalities including staff at all levels.
? Strong computer skills specifically Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
? Commitment to the ACLU's values, mission, and goals.

The ACLU offers a generous and comprehensive compensation and benefits package, commensurate with experience and within parameters of the ACLU compensation scale.
