British Council Director, France


We need a strong cultural relations leader to build and deliver on ambitious plans for growth and impact in this senior post based in Paris. Building on significant planning and delivery in country, the successful candidate will manage a large team and work with a diverse mix of stakeholders and partnerships to identify opportunities for further growth and innovation within our "entrepreneurial public service" framework.  As a member of the EU Regional Management Team, you will support the development and implementation of regional strategy and delivery of high-quality, high-impact services across the board. Our leading activities are (by order of volume) in English, Education & Society, and the Arts. We support all our work through a growing on-line presence.
For this role, the British Council is seeking a senior, entrepreneurial individual with a compelling career to date in leadership and with experience in the shaping of partnerships at a senior level. The successful candidate's experience will include some broad experience of our programme areas: Arts, English, Education & Society). Applicants must be able to speak French well, this will be tested at interview, and have a strong awareness of French and European cultural affairs. This post is a for four years, with a possible extension of a further year. However, we are committed to developing our people and would envisage this being the beginning of a senior, mobile career with us.
Salary package: circa GBP 85K + excellent benefits include, transfer assistance, accommodation, schooling, annual fare paid leave and a generous defined benefits pension scheme.
This role currently has diplomatic status so is open to UK passport holders only.
