Programme Officer Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

Simavi is an ambitious and growing development organisation. Together with local partners we improve the health of people in the poorest regions in developing countries. With special attention for mothers as change agents, we take care of safe drinking water, sustainable sanitation, hygiene, access to primary health care, healthy pregnancies and safe deliveries. With more than one hundred  partners we offer practical support to communities in nine countries in Africa and Asia.
In the Netherlands, and internationally, we influence the policies of governments and companies to take into account the health of the poorest people. We campaign to engage the general public and involve them in what we do. We are also lead agent of the WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Alliance and we are member of the SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights) Alliance.
For our Programme Department we are looking for an experienced Programme Officer, starting as soon as possible:
 Programme Officer Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (32 hrs); temporary for 6 month with a possibility for extension
The candidate will work in a team of Programme Officers who are responsible for developing and managing projects and programmes of Simavi in Africa. You will also actively contribute to developing policies and funding proposals. The Programme Officer will report to the Team Coordinator Africa.
Responsibilities
  1. Primarily implement programmes on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH);
  2. Assessment of programme proposals for funding;
  3. Support implementation and monitoring of projects and programmes (including visits to the region)
  4. Manage partner relations in Kenya and Malawi (NGOs, consultants, embassies, government etc);
  5. Contribute to policy development and develop funding proposals in the field of WASH.
Job requirements
  • Academic level with proven knowledge and experience in the field of WASH;
  • Experience in collaboration with private sector is an asset, i.e. Public Private Partnership;
  • Affinity with business approaches in WASH is an asset:
  • Experience in the field of Primary Health is an asset;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience of which 1 year in a developing country;
  • Experience with project management, programme planning models and monitoring systems;
  • Ability to contribute to the development of funding proposals;
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English;
  • Dutch citizen or in possession of legal entitlement to live and work in the Netherlands;
  • Team player, but also able to work independently;
  • A networker with an ability to represent Simavi in various situations.
Simavi offers
  • An interesting position for 6 months in a dynamic and international working environment, with substantial personal freedom in the context of an ambitious and professional team;
  • A gross monthly salary between € 2161,- and € 3247,- on a fulltime basis of 36 hours;
  • Excellent secondary employment conditions; 
  • Location: Haarlem, The Netherlands.
