JOB TITLE:  Campaign Manager , My Body My Rights Campaign
DEPARTMENT:  Campaign and Communication Directorate 
JOB PURPOSE: Lead on operationalizing campaign strategy, input in research and policy development and multi-disciplinary coordination across different stakeholders inside and outside the organization on the body of work within My Body My Rights Campaign, with the potential to be redeployed to other AI global campaigns in future.
DEPARTMENT PURPOSE: Advance AI’s, campaigning, advocacy, mobilization, communications, policy, research for the indivisibility of human rights, with a primary focus on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
Lead AI’s MBMR campaigning to end the human rights violations that keep people poor through the Demand Dignity Programme.
AIIS PURPOSE: The International Secretariat, which operates from a number of sites around the world, gathers and communicates accurate and action-oriented human rights information globally. We campaign for meaningful human rights change; enable effective human rights activism and work to persuade governments and other actors to uphold universal human rights standards. We provide strategic leadership, support and advice to the Amnesty International movement globally, fostering Amnesty International’s contribution, presence and public accountability throughout the world.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reporting to: Programme Director, Demand Dignity and ESCR.
Posts that this job manages: Campaign Coordinators, Communications Officer, temporary staff, interns, volunteers or external consultants as an when necessary.
Other key relationships: Senior Directors, Programme Directors, Deputy Directors, Head and members of the ESCR team, Hub Directors,  Project Advisor, Campaigns Programme, Regional programme staff, policy, legal and thematic teams, AI section & structure staff, in particular campaigns and communications staff and external partners.
 USEFUL INFORMATION:
LOCATION: London with frequent international travel. 
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Exercise strategic leadership and provide sound judgment and expertise in relation to My Body My Rights Campaign in order to deliver global strategies and operational plans taking advantage of political opportunities
Manage staff and financial resources of the campaign team in close co-ordination with the Programme Director.
Ensure integration of campaigning with sections / Structures / collations / Networks in order to provide an effective, coherent campaign that delivers tangible outcomes world-wide, especially in the global south.
Manage delivery and coordination of key projects within the strategic framework and agreed priorities, ensuring participation of stakeholders (including partner organizations), clear objectives, timely and accurate delivery, and ensuring effective monitoring and reporting of progress.
Lead on development and, quality control of campaigning materials for use by Amnesty International sections & structures, International Secretariat staff and external audiences. Where required, approve materials or manage approval processes to ensure high quality standards.
Ensure promotion of best practices including campaign monitoring and evaluation.
Oversee and manage the development of effective partnerships with sections and structures and external actors to deliver campaigning, and advocacy and which ensures regular communication and feedback;
Ensure effective and creative membership-based actions and ensure exchange of relevant experiences between membership structures in different countries.
Support relevant section-led projects including initiatives for local relevance in the overall global strategy.
Oversee and manage advice for sections and structures on campaigning and activism and support sharing of advice on direct assistance, policy and ethical obligations to ensure and protect credibility of Amnesty International.
Build and maintain relationships with partner organisations, non-governmental organizations and other human rights collations.
Represent areas of work within the movement, partner organizations, international organizations, media and public fora as appropriate.
Manage risk assessments and oversee the implementation of security procedures for staff. Commission and supervise work of external consultants as appropriate to bring in additional areas of expertise and capacity.
Report on the work in areas of responsibility, including financial reporting, and contribute to the International Secretariat’s overall reporting obligations, ensuring accountability to internal stakeholders for own programme of work and allocated resources.

  • MBMR has clear integrated strategies and actions to take advantage of political and other strategic opportunities
  • Key stakeholders are able to contribute to plans and implementing stakeholders in the IS and sections and structures understand their roles within the campaign
  • MBMR campaigning actions have wide take-up across the AI movement and with external collations.
  • MBMR campaign is  implemented to deadline and on budget
  • The Campaign team is well-managed and well-motivated to exercise their professional expertise and perform their roles; support is provided, as required. Budget and other resources are well managed.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrate experience of developing and leading campaigning at the national & international level and readiness to lead innovation and creative approaches to campaigning.
Excellent understanding of strategic campaigning methodologies, power analysis and campaign development tool including digital space and the most effective means of communication to achieve agreed goals, within given constraints.
Experience of developing project & campaign objectives & specifications and strategies to meet specific goals and objectives and ability to lead a project team to develop and deliver specific campaign strategies.
Sound experience of providing an advocacy or similar support service for campaign team.
Excellent understanding of the principles of campaigning and the importance of understanding thematic areas around poverty and human rights.
The ability to adapt to fast-changing political situations, making political judgments in an international environment and experience of employing political judgment and of assessing the most effective means of communication to achieve a goal within given constraints.
Experience of writing for a diverse range of target reader groups, including campaign materials for external readers and circulars or bulletins for internal purposes; ability to communicate organisational positions and views within the movement and to external stakeholders or media.
Understanding and confidence in line managing and supervising a team of staff with diverse responsibilities in an organisation of comparable size; ability to coordinate team work, engage and inspire team members, communicate effectively, give effective feedback.
Ability to recognize staff talent and potential and willingness to foster the development of that potential among staff; experience of capacity building and training on professional practice issues.
Experience of managing conflicting demands, meeting deadlines and adjusting priorities.
Experience of managing budgets and regularly report progress against plans and objectives.
Fluent in written and spoken English; a working knowledge of second language is desirable.
Ability to work in multi-cultural environment with appropriate sensitivity to differences of culture, gender and physical ability; Experience of establishing good working relationships with colleagues from a variety of cultures and backgrounds; understanding of equal opportunities issues and willingness to apply in work
Willingness to undertake personal administrative tasks in accordance with the guidelines on self-servicing.
