Job Description 
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).
The EMBL Mouse Biology Unit in Monterotondo (Rome, Italy) is seeking to hire a bioinformatician to work in a support role for its research groups. The candidate should have a strong statistical background and be experienced in the handling and analysis of large data sets generated by microarray hybridization (e.g. gene expression analysis or CGH arrays), and deep sequencing (e.g. Illumina platform), associated with Chromatin Immunoprecipitation and/or 4C/HIC experimentation. Experience in RNA-seq data analysis is welcome. The candidate is expected to support individual researchers on specific problems including data mining approaches, train people in the labs and liaise with the EBI and EMBL informatics personnel at Heidelberg. Where an outstanding candidate may lack some of the indicated skills or experience, or where specialized bioinformatics skills are required, specific training may be made available. The candidate should be independent, enjoy collaborations and interactions, capable of communicating with experimentalists and be willing to learn and travel. EMBL Monterotondo which specialises in mammalian biology and genetics is a part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory. It is located close to Rome, Italy, and provides a dynamic international working environment and high level facilities.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in a biological science or bioinformatics.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a bioinformatics environment.
