Regional Director – East and Southeast Asia AVRDC – The World Vegetable Center is a non-profit, autonomous international agricultural research center with headquarters in Taiwan and regional and project offices around the globe. AVRDC conducts research and development programs that contribute to improved incomes and diets in the developing world through increased production and consumption of safe vegetables. AVRDC seeks a Regional Director for East and Southeast Asia to manage and coordinate its research and development activities in the region. The position is based at AVRDC's regional office in Bangkok, Thailand. The Regional Director reports to the Deputy Director General – Research. 

The Job: Key responsibilities for the Regional Director are as follows: 
1. Represent AVRDC - The World Vegetable Center in East and Southeast Asia.
 2. Coordinate, manage and monitor the Center's research and development activities, and the performance of its staff in the region.
 3. Develop and manage effective linkages with the host government in Thailand and with other initiatives and institutions in the region to facilitate AVRDC's operations in the region. 
4. Manage the daily administration of the regional office in Bangkok, Thailand, and AVRDC's Research and Training Center in Kamphaeng Saen, Thailand . 
5. Develop and implement, with the Center's Deputy Director General for Research, Global Theme Leaders and the Center's scientists, strategies for the Center's research and development activities in the region. 
6. Propose an annual work plan, and report on progress made to the Center's Management. Prepare progress and financial reports as required by the Center's management. 7. Encourage and motivate staff in the region to prepare high quality research and development proposals for funding. 
8. Support the Center's staff in the region to publish their research in a timely manner in peerreviewed publications, and to respond to project or management reporting requirements efficiently and effectively. 
9. Interact with national, regional and international institutions to develop and expand the Center's research and development activities and impact. 

The Person: 
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in an agricultural science or an equivalent qualification and at least 10 years of conducting/coordinating research and development activities, with at least five years of management experience and demonstrated capacity for leadership in an international, multidisciplinary environment. Work experience in East and Southeast Asia and with professional interaction with national and international research institutions and policymakers will be an advantage. Proficiency in written and oral English is required. The Reward: This is an Internationally Recruited Staff (IRS) position with competitive pay and benefits. The initial appointment is for three years and may be extended depending on performance of the incumbent.
