ARCHNET DIGITAL LIBRARY CONTENT MANAGER, MIT Libraries, to mange aspects of the Archnet (http://Archnet.org) digital library. Will participate in collection building by identifying, evaluating, and acquiring materials in all formats; archive all original material and all derivatives to the site; edit, catalog, create metadata, and upload materials to the site; be responsible for acquiring and managing copyright; prioritize and coordinate various digital projects; and play an important role in supporting digital scholarship, working closely with various and diverse colleagues at MIT, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), and the Aga Khan Program in Islamic Architecture (AKPIA) Documentation Center at Harvard. Will be expected to keep current with and develop knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in the community.
REQUIREMENTS: a background and education (advanced degree preferred) in art/architectural history related to the study of the Islamic world; two years of related professional library experience; research, writing, and/or copy-editing experience; familiarity with architectural description; reading knowledge of at least one Middle Eastern language; expertise in image metadata standards and online data creation and access; knowledge of databases and digital image file management; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills; flexibility; and ability to work collaboratively and across organizational boundaries. Working knowledge of western European languages and the contemporary field of Islamic art and architecture historical study and its constituents is highly desired; as is knowledge of archival collections projects related to the visual culture and history of the Middle East.
