Maney now wishes to appoint someone with scientific and technical expertise, industry knowledge, energy and ambition (but not necessarily publishing experience) to develop new titles in materials science and engineering either for subscription or open access publishing.

  2. Developing contacts in Europe and the rest of the world in order to have good networks in emerging areas of research.
  3. Consulting with senior researchers and directors in universities, government departments and industry with a view to identifying research and commercial trends for development.
  4. Identifying societies and institutions with which to collaborate in the launch of new products.
  5. Developing the business plans and budgets for the projects.
  6. Identifying and appointing the most appropriate people for editor and editorial board positions.
  7. Commissioning textual and other kinds of material to complement the submission of unsolicited papers.

Experience and abilitiesThe successful candidate, will have a PhD in a relevant subject, with a minimum of 2 years post- doctoral experience, should have a good knowledge of materials science and/or one of the other interface subjects and the relevant journals. You are likely to be working in industry or university research, and should be able to demonstrate an ability to think creatively and develop commercially viable publications. You should also bring energy and perseverance, and be prepared to travel extensively in Europe and Asia in order to attend conferences, meet editors and society officers, and establish and maintain contacts. Good organisational and IT skills, a keen eye for detail and the ability to multi-task and work to deadlines are also essential.
