The Data Center Operations Engineer will be responsible for the support and delivery of data center services worldwide. Working within the Data Center Services team, the DC Operations Engineer will provide the necessary knowledge, expertise, and drive to deliver a professional high quality service in the delivery of Data Center services to Nokia. These services will range from day to day management of the environments (cleanliness and quality of all work), hardware installations and cabling, management of the facilities with the Datacenter vendors and managing other third parties.
In addition to delivering the services and creating the necessary supporting documentation, the individual will contribute to the team through improving working methodologies and practices where appropriate.
Job Requirements
  • Work as part of a multi shift, data center team to design, deploy and support 24x7x365 operations. 3rd shift is from 10AM to 7PM
  • To be on-call on a rotation basis shared with other engineers
  • Work directly with third party onsite engineers, including security access and delivery of equipment
  • Implement and manage processes and procedures within Nokia's existing datacenters
  • This role will be part of a high performing DC Operations team so the ability to manage own workload and without direct supervision is essential.
  • The support of all DC environments as required which may include some working away from home, off hours and some international travel
  • Produce and maintain documentation that shows cable structure, port allocation rack elevations.
  • Fault finding complex hardware issues directly with vendors
  • Plan and manage Datacenter projects to completion
  • Presents or makes recommendations on technical issues
  • Consolidates system data to formulate reports for business managers
  • Provides training to user community on systems support
  • Attention to detail with an appreciation for the relationship between system reliability and company success

Qualifications

Qualifications
  • Must speak English clearly (German, Finnish, Hindi, Urdu, and Chinese a plus)
  • Degree in Computing Science or equivalent work experience
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills
  • Open & flexible approach to working outside core business hours
  • Driving License and Passport
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to succeed in a complex, virtual and international culture where change and speed are part of daily work
  • Strong knowledge of ITSM platforms and how they relate to daily operations
  • Knowledge of ITIL best practices (ITIL v3 Foundation certification preferred)
  • Excellent knowledge of server, storage and network technical fault finding
  • Demonstrable experience in, estimating capacity requirements, Network installation, Data cabling (CAT5, CAT6 & Fiber), hardware racking with power and data connectivity
  • 8+ years of experience with the Internet Services industry
  • 6+ years of relevant working experience in the following:
    • Multi-site and Globally Distributed Datacenter environment
    • Linux and Windows systems administration
    • Hardware platform maintenance (HP, Dell, Cisco, Juniper, F5)
    • Hardware monitoring tools (HP SIM, Dell Open Manage)
    • Storage Technologies (Fibre Channel SAN, NAS)
    • Network Technologies (Juniper, Cisco, F5)
