Engineering Manager: Premus Department

The purpose of the position is to manage, coordinate and improve engineering processes in the plant, to set operational objectives and to coordinate between other disciplines. The successful candidate will manage and control maintenance activities focusing on the optimum utilisation of plant availability, and will manage with the necessary input, know-how, energy and enthusiasm to enable other team players, individuals, groups and parties involved to also reach their goals. The incumbent will work in an environment of broad-spectrum exposure, which includes managing information systems, quality, environment, health and safety, quality, housekeeping awareness and loss control principles. He/she will be involved in managing the development and updating of the plant, selecting equipment as well as managing cost and budget control. Standby duty will be required.

Requirements: The successful candidate should possess a relevant diploma/degree and at least 5 years’ experience in the ferro-alloy or a similar industry, preferably in heavy industry, backed by proven managerial skills. Experience on rotary kilns, submerged arch furnace maintenance and electrical high-tension systems would be an advantage. The ideal candidate should have excellent managerial skills and be self-motivated. The ability to communicate in English and computer efficiency are essential. A Government certificate of competency (factories) would be advantageous. Good leadership, management, planning, organising and controlling skills are important, along with sound problem solving and decision making abilities, initiative, adaptability, a results orientation and a high level of emotional intelligence. Conceptual/analytical skills, in combination with the ability to recognise, initiate and develop, are required, along with a drive for operational excellence and continuous improvement.
