OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE TECHNOLOGIST: SHERQ, KUMBA IRON ORE, SISHEN MINE, NORTHERN CAPE

Your task will be to ensure legal compliance with regard to occupational hygiene at the Mine, which will involve monitoring and controlling chemical and physical hazards (eg noise, airborne pollutants, thermal stress and illumination) as well as identifying potential OH deviations and corrective actions to be taken. The scope of your activity will include training staff on identifying and addressing health/hygiene hazards, performing hygiene audits (OHSAS 18001) and compiling OH reports.

A BTech in Environmental Science or an Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control is the qualification sought, and you must be registered as a Hygiene Technologist with the SA Institute of Occupational Hygiene. 3-5 years’ applicable experience is essential and you should possess a Code 08 driver’s licence. Besides having sound managerial skills, you should be highly knowledgeable on the Mine Health and Safety Act and be acquainted with the designated area. Being a good team worker is important, but so is the ability to work independently.
