Officer - Agricultural Development

The field staff will help accelerate the participatory testing and adoption of production technologies that will increase the sustainability and profitability of cereal-based agricultural systems in Bangladesh



Duties

• Assist in the development and pre-testing of questionnaires for surveys and experiments
• Carry out needs assessments for selected districts through hub region field visits
• Assist in developing programs and analyzing collected statistical data for experiments
• Analyze research data and prepares detailed reports and presentations, appropriate tables and charts from collected information and draft report from farmer participatory trials
• Review and verify data and statistics to ensure the validity of all results and analyses
• Coordinate participatory trials on crop and resource management in cereal-based systems
• Interact and organize meetings with various stakeholders and partners to discuss, streamline, and implement the technology development program
• Form partnerships with a wide-range clientele including farmers, NGOs, private and public sector organizations, and scientists, to evaluate and deliver technologies that are appropriate for their hub domain
• Create and maintain databases for use by other researchers
• Assist the senior cropping systems scientist as needed

Qualification requirements


• Diploma in agriculture with at least 10 years of practical field experience of Bachelor's degree in agriculture with at least 4 years of professional experience or Master's degree in an agriculture related field with at least 1 year of professional experience
• Demonstrated experience with farmer participatory research or extension with a particular emphasis on crop management in rice, wheat, or maize-based cropping systems in Bangladesh
• Ability to identify and final solutions to field problems (seeds, soil, and water management, integrated pest management, farm machinery, nutrient management, post-harvest operations)
• Good communication skills for training farmers, outreach professionals, and input providers
