Job description

  • To ensure that all geological work in well projects in Statoil is performed in a correct, safe and cost efficient way, in accordance with acts, regulations, and internal requirements and best practice routines
  • Responsibilities and work tasks:
  • The Planning Phase:
  • Plan, Oversee and Report on Operations during the planning and drilling operations of deepwater wells
  • Coordinate requirements of Geology, Drilling and Petrophysics with vendors
  • “Visit” offshore drilling rigs to verify vendor equipment and services are in order
  • Prepare End of Well Report per guiding documents
  • Assure that timely BOEMRE Exploration Plans are filed by working with Regulatory and Exploration Department personnel
  • Manage shallow hazard acquisition and reporting by working with internal Technology group and external 3-D shallow hazard vendors
  • Call for and participate in a Site Survey/Shallow Gas Evaluation Meeting
  • In cooperation with the Subsurface Team, establish data requirements followed by preparation of a Data Acquisition Program
  • Facilitate data acquisition, without jeopardizing the HSE matters and the data quality
  • Support the Petroleum Engineer in preparing pore pressure prognoses
  • Establish and maintain good communication with the relevant service companies
  • The Operations Phase:
  • Follow up HSE matters, especially related to geological activities (well site geology, mud logging, coring, logging, logging while drilling (LWD)), and ensure that best practice work procedures are used
  • Together with the Well site Geologist), be responsible for the evaluation of the drilling and the logging parameters with regards to pressure prediction and safety
  • Together with the Petroleum Engineer, be responsible for quality control of all data necessary for the geological evaluation
  • Ensure correct and timely information to all relevant parties of geological matters, including possible non-conformances with plans/prognoses
  • Be responsible, together with the Petroleum Engineer, for the onshore pore pressure supervision
  • Be in regular contact with the Well site Geologist, and give status information and work instructions before each work period
  • Perform quality control of the work done by the geological personnel on the rig
  • Perform invoice control and recommendation for authorization
  • Update well related data bases

Qualifications

  • Required:
  • 4 year bachelor’s degree
  • Must have US work Authorization
  • 4+ years of oilfield services experience
  • 4+ years of well evaluation experience
  • Preferred:
  • MSc degree
  • An understanding of well evaluation tools, concepts, systems and post processing deliverables
  • An understanding of petrophysical concepts and acquisition methods
  • Knowledge of regional Gulf of Mexico shelf and deepwater depositional systems
  • General understanding of geophysical concepts and seismic interpretation
  • Good knowledge of predicting and evaluation of pore pressure
  • Applied geological experience within or working with cross-functional teams
  • Offshore drilling operations, particularly deepwater (high pore pressure) experience is of key importance and should include, LWD, MWD, Wireline, Coring/Core Analysis, Mud logging, and other well planning and data acquisition experience
