The Water and Environment Business Unit has 70 staff within 4 sections: Coastal & Ocean; Marine & Freshwater Ecology; Environmental Services and Water Engineering with offices in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne. The Coastal & Ocean section has been established for over 30-years and is a recognised leader in the fields of oceanographic and coastal process investigations, coastal engineering, numerical modelling, marine data collection and ship simulation. The group is known throughout Australasia and International markets for state-of-the-art numerical modelling and investigations to support impact assessments and planning studies in coastal ocean, estuarine and freshwater environments.
Cardno is seeking an experienced and motivated Coastal Engineer/Oceanographer to lead the Section, direct our growing workload and expand our capabilities into new and established markets around Australasia. Our established Perth team has grown rapidly over the last 3-years and is currently undertaking hydrodynamic modeling of coastal processes for major Port and Marine infrastructure investigations, as well as metocean and environmental data collection around Australia/SE Asia.
The Section Leader will run the Australia wide team of 25 staff from WA and report to the BU Manager based in Sydney. This Section Leader is responsible for the leadership and management of the Coastal and Ocean Section including coordination of the resources in the Sydney, Perth and Melbourne offices. We are seeking an exceptional candidate with 15 plus years experience in coastal engineering with a background in hydrodynamic modeling and associated data collection. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and capabilities in the following areas:
  • Coastal processes investigations for infrastructure developments
  • Numerical modeling of ocean dynamics including waves, currents, sea-level and sediment transport (Deltares modeling suite an advantage)
  • Business acumen and commercial focus within a consulting environment
  • Project and staff management and development
  • Team leadership
