Public Health Delegate Swiss Red Cross (SRC)

The Swiss Red Cross (SRC) is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement - the world's largest independent humanitarian organization. The movement has three parts: the National Societies, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

SRC is involved in the implementation of a reconstruction and rehabilitation program in Pakistan. For our projects in the disaster affected District of Dadu, Province of Sindh, we are looking for an experienced
Public Health Delegate
to be based in Hyderabad, Pakistan with regular visits to the field.
The purpose of the assignment is to continue to implement the public health component of SRC program in the District of Dadu in close cooperation with our partners. The health component consists of three projects that have started at the beginning of 2012: CBHFA, MNCH and WASH.
Role & Responsibilities
  • To monitor the health component which is implemented by the Pakistan Red Crescent and other partners and to appoint national staff for these projects.
  • To establish and maintain productive partnerships with stakeholders by gaining their trust and respect and to ensure that roles, responsibilities and reporting lines are clearly understood.
  • To assess community health concerns and needs in the districts covered by the projects.
  • To assess the capacity of the existing government and non-government health services (personnel, infrastructure, systems and procedures) in the same areas and to develop strategies to better link communities to them.
  • To assess barriers to access and uptake of available preventive and curative services from both the service provider and users’ perspective.
  • To support the SRC Delegation in any other health coordination tasks.
Requirements
  • Public health professional or paramedical background
  • Minimum three years working experience in providing technical support to long term public health projects
  • Experience in building linkages and networking with government health institutions
  • Knowledge and experience in participatory assessment/survey/evaluation methodology (demand and provider side)
  • Knowledge and experience in development of health promotion strategies and project design
· Diplomacy , team spirit and negotiation skills
· Sensitivity to cultural differences, ability to adapt to the context and work under pressure
· Speaks and writes clearly and effectively in English (working language)
· Familiarity with Red Cross Movement is an advantage.
Conditions: 1 year with the option of extension, starting as soon as possible or according to agreement. Adequate salary, social insurances, travel and accommodation expenses provided. No family posting.
