Regional Security Technician

Introduction

The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking an individual for the position of Regional Security Technician in the Engineering Services Center (ESC).

Minimum Requirements

NOTE: ALL APPLICANTS MUST ADDRESS EACH SELECTION CRITERION DETAILED BELOW WITH SPECIFIC AND COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION SUPPORTING EACH ITEM. Items 1- 7 are ALL REQUIRED 1. Successful completion of a three year diploma in electronics or electrical technology or equivalent military training is required. 2. Three years progressively responsible of field work experience in major repairs and installation of electrical and mechanical equipment such as closed circuit television, alarm systems, access control systems, or vehicle arrest systems is required. 3. Level IV English (fluent) reading/writing/speaking. (This will be tested) 4. Must have strong knowledge of electrical power systems, electronics, electrical test equipment (multi-meters, oscilloscopes, etc). 5. Must have the ability to draft reports independently. 6. A valid passport for international travel is mandatory. 7. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite 2007 (Word and Excel will be tested)

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position:

The incumbent is responsible for inspecting, installation, maintaining and making recommendations for improvement of the security equipment at USG facilities in the region. Maintains and repairs walk-through metal doors, CCTV equipment, public address systems, security doors, changes combinations, installs and repairs locks for controlled doors, shredders and vehicle arrest systems. Incumbent must develop proficiency in the use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and maintains inventory accountability. Through CMMS, the incumbent must ensure adequate stocks of components.
