RESIDENCY IN SMALL ANIMAL SURGERY 2012

Applications are invited for a Residency in Small animal Surgery at the School of Veterinary & Biomedical Sciences starting July 4, 2012. The small animal surgery residency is a comprehensive 3 year program designed to provide advanced training in small animal surgery. The program is supervised by ACVS and ECVS diplomates and is approved by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists. Murdoch University is an AVMA accredited veterinary school.

The residency is linked to a three year postgraduate degree at Murdoch University which has course work and thesis research requirements. Residents will be expected to provide assistance in the undergraduate teaching program for the relevant discipline. In addition, the resident will be required to participate in the clinical service, including after-hours, provided by Murdoch University Veterinary Hospital. Residents are required to participate in weekly surgical, multidisciplinary and journal club rounds and contribute to the Residents’ Seminar Series. The residency program includes scheduled time for research and completion of training in related specialist disciplines including anaesthesia, internal medicine, diagnostic imaging and pathology as required by the relevant specialist college.

The successful applicant will be chosen based upon academic merit and experience in the field. Preference is given to Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents but non-residents can apply. Applicants should possess a veterinary degree that can be registered in Western Australia.

A tax free scholarship of $40,000 per annum is available for the three year programme.

Additional financial assistance may be available for conference attendance and off-campus training. There are no university fees for the postgraduate degree
