The School of Chemical and Mathematical Sciences
covers the disciplines of Chemistry, Mineral Science, Extractive Metallurgy, Mathematics and Statistics. It has excellent relations with industry, government and the wider community, and productive research collaborations with local and overseas institutions. School staff form a significant part of Australia's major research facility for Hydrometallurgy, the Parker Centre for Integrated Hydrometallurgical Solutions.

These 2 positions present a great opportunity for talented applicants to join a highly successful team at the forefront in solution chemistry and hydrometallurgical research. The quality of the research in these areas at Murdoch University has been recognised in the ‘Excellence in Research Australia’ assessment by two five-star (top) rankings, for Physical Chemistry and Resources Engineering & Extractive Metallurgy. These appointments reflect the University’s continuing commitment to these fields.

We are seeking from around the world applicants with leadership potential, excellent communication skills, a track record of research productivity and a strong interest in teaching. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating an international reputation, high quality research publications, external research support and the capacity to interact with industry.

Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the activities of the Parker Centre. While leadership skills are important, the administrative component of the positions will be light. Additional opportunities which can be offered to successful applicants include the capacity to absorb PhD students.

The positions, available from April 2012, are based in Perth, Western Australia, a city renowned for its outstanding quality of life, and for being the business and research heart of Australia’s booming minerals industry.
