Senior Linux System Engineer

Position Description:

Under the direction of Sr. Director of IT Engineering, the Sr. Systems Engineer will primarily focus on developing, testing, installing, maintaining, upgrading and supporting FHI360's SuSE Enterprise Linux (SLES), Novell Open Enterprise Server (OES) and Solaris Server architecture. The position will include design, analysis, problem resolution, testing, documentation and implementation of server based solutions on various Dell, Sun & virtual platforms running different versions of the Solaris, SLES, or OES Operating systems. This position will also be responsible for the engineering, administration, and support for FHI360's JAMIS Accounting Systems.

Essential Job Functions:
Provide engineering, planning, deployment, documentation and administration for FHI360's Solaris, SLES, and OES systems including the following sub-systems:

DNS, OS and Patch testing and Deployment, Linux server Imaging, User authentication integration, Apache and web server configuration, syslog maintenance, SLES/OES Linux, Postfix MTA an sFTP setup.

Provide engineering, planning, deployment, documentation and administration for the JAMIS Accounting and GroundWork Network Monitoring Systems.

Provide technical support for escalated incidents that involve Solaris, SLES or OES platforms, including applications that run on them.

Liaison with vendors and technical support organizations.

Other duties as assigned by Director of IT Engineering.

Specific Knowledge Requirements:

RedHat Certified Technician, Novell Certified Linux Professional, Sun Certified Systems Administrator or equivalent required;

RedHat Certified Engineer, Novell Certified Linux Engineer, Sun Certified Network Administrator or equivalent preferred;

ITIL Foundation Certification preferred;

Experience with Novell Edirectory and Novell Open Enterprise Server (OES) strongly desired.

Must be skilled in Unix, Linux and network system engineering and administration;

Must be able to efficiently troubleshoot problems in complex systems;

Must understand and follow Change Management and other ITIL based processes;

Must be able to interact well with end users, vendors, and consultants;

Must be able to write clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation;

Must have thorough understanding of the principles behind the TCP/IP and LDAP protocols;

Must be able to learn new applications and processes quickly.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors in one of the following or related fields: Computer Information Systems, Computer Programming, Computer Science and Computing & Management required or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Masters preferred. 6 year(s) of relevant experience required
