Chevron’s Deepwater Exploration and Projects (DWEP) Business Unit is accepting online applications for a Software Engineer located in Houston, Texas.

Overview:
This position will ensure that all required drilling engineering software and spreadsheets are modified to work with dual gradient drilling.
Position Details: Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the modifications from a technical and end-user standpoint and vet all changes that are made. Work with business partners as required to assist in software modifications.
  • Initiate and oversee modifications of drilling engineering software that is used within DWEP (e.g. Schlumberger CemCADE, MI Swaco Virtual Hydraulics, Halliburton Landmark package, Sperry Sun Mud Logging software, WellView reporting software).
  • Determine what upgrades are needed and assist third-party software engineers in the implementation
  • Be a technical resource for all changes and beta testing of modified software.
  • Upgrade existing DWEP drilling engineering tools and spreadsheets to properly account for differences in DGD operations.
  • Actively seek out programs and spreadsheets used by well planning and field drilling engineers and modify a DGD version on an as-needed basis.
  • Periodically prepare and present training materials to CVX engineers, rig crews, and business partners, with particular attention given to training in the use of DGD specific software and spreadsheets.
  • Interface and communicate with well planning and operations teams as required to support end-users of drilling engineering software.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years relevent experience
  • Proven base of experience in deepwater drilling operations and the use of drilling engineering software tools to understand which are most critical and used most frequently.
  • Ability to fully understand the mathematics and physics of DGD
  • Candidate should display passion for significance and success and understand the significance of what this project could provide for Chevron.
  • Display the creative talent to identify opportunities and develop innovative solutions, and have the drive, determination and attitude to overcome setbacks.
