Technical Services Manager Tanzania-Shinyanga Region
African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Mine seeks to appoint a Technical Services Manager who will be responsible to develop a cost effective and efficient mine strategy, and to provide planning and support to the mining operations team for the optimum extraction of the Bulyanhulu ore bodies. The incumbent will also be responsible for the preparation of the annual mining budget, forecasts and LOM plans, and for the estimation and evaluation of resources and reserves to requirements of legislation. Furthermore, the incumbent will develop, prioritize and progress all technical projects in line with LOM plan as well as monitoring and ensuring that all Mining Capital spend is in line with the LOM plan and ABG policy. The role would also involve the coordination of the design, engineering, construction and commissioning of mine infrastructure required to sustain underground mining operations.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide the leadership and motivation necessary to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to all policies, standards and procedures during the execution of their duties.
• Develop and implement mining strategies, budgets and plans to ensure optimum extraction of the Bulyanhulu ore bodies, in accordance to the regional deadlines for submission.
• Develop, implement and monitor systems to collect, validate and analyze all relevant planning and performance information to assist in the optimum extraction of the ore.
• Act swiftly to correct any unfavourable cost and labour variances to ensure budget compliance.
• Create a working environment that ensures that employees gain new skills and achieve their full potential by developing and implementing effective training and mentoring programmes.
• Assist in the implementation of localization plans and performance management processes to ensure optimum employee performance and behaviour through effective knowledge and skills development.
• Continually review every aspect of the technical services department to ensure that opportunities to add value and increase shareholder wealth are identified and implemented.
• Participate in the BGML management and operational teams to ensure that targets for resources extraction, capital management, cost control, safe working, employee development, environmental management and corporate governance are achieved.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Education Requirements:
• BSc Degree in Mining Engineering or Geology
• Management qualification will be beneficial
Experience Requirements:
• Minimum of 15 years in underground hard rock mining with at least 5 years at Chief Geologist or Chief Mining Engineer level and recent experience in the gold mining industry.
