Metallurgical Technician

Metallurgical Technician - Barrick Technology Centre, Vancouver
Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a high standard for safety performance and housekeeping and assume the responsibility of maintaining a safe working environment in your area.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments under the direction of a Metallurgist.
  • Setup equipment and conduct testwork according to the procedure provided.
  • Accurately record measurements and observations made during the test.
  • Prepare and submit samples of test products for analysis.
  • Prepare templates to record data. Conduct metallurgical balance calculations.
  • Conduct sample preparation as directed including crushing, sample spitting, compositing, pulverizing.
  • Operation of pilot plants and technology demonstrations, such as autoclave leaching, carbon-in-leach, sulfide flotation, column heap leaching tests, bio-leaching.
  • Conduct continuous pilot plant and technology demonstrations.
  • Troubleshooting and making necessary adjustments to maintain target operating conditions.
  • Follow standard operating procedures provided.
  • Perform the ASP (Area Safety Person) responsibilities and duties.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Chemical Technology diploma will be highly regarded
· Ability to work well as part of a team and at times unsupervised.
· Strong communication skills together with a safety orientated approach.
· Innovative approach to problem solving.
· Ability to multi-task and, on occasion, to perform repetitive tasks.
· Work requires, at times, executing strenuous tasks, working outdoors, and working shifts up to 12 hours
