Call for Candidates for DST/NRF SARChI Research Chair

The aim of the South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARChI) is to strengthen scientific research leadership and capacity in South African universities, in order to strengthen the development of a knowledge-based economy in South Africa. The University of the Western Cape (UWC) was awarded a number of Tier 1 Research Chairs and is hereby calling for candidates to fill this prestigious position for the following Chair:

Health Systems, Complexity and Social Change

The Research Chair will build on and substantially enhance the School of Public Health’s (SOPH) capacity in Health Policy and Systems Research (HPSR). As this is a relatively new area within public health, the incumbent’s work will focus on field building - expanding the conceptual, methodological and theoretical dimensions of HPSR from the SOPH’s particular vantage point as a south-based institution with strong links to national policy processes. The Research Chair will be expected to advance HPSR research capacity and related human capital in South Africa and the region, generate new knowledge on the real world dynamics of complex systems and contribute to understanding on how best to achieve change in these systems. Through the SOPH’s networks across the country and globally, the Chair will capitalise on and lead the process of shaping new thinking on health systems internationally.
