Software Engineering Instructor/IT Department
We are currently seeking an ambitious software engineer to lead the IT program of the university, which is about to enter its second year. As the program is still young, the majority of work related to putting together a curriculum, academic foundation and principles still remains to be done and would be the primary responsibility of this position. With a new computer lab, Internet access and some of the brightest young minds that the country has to offer, the position is well equipped for someone to succeed with this challenging task but would still require a great deal of hard work and dedication.
The main goal of the program is to prepare qualified software engineers that would be able to compete for both local and international jobs, as well as to offer less intense educational tracks focusing on other employable IT skills like hardware and web development technologies. The majority of the students coming into the program will not have been exposed to an education system of proper standards before and lack both sufficient knowledge and an academic culture that their counterparts in the West have. Although this fact makes the task even more difficult, it will be compensted by high selectivity and rigorous training in core disciplines such as Math and English in the beginning of the program.
All in all, the role will have a large workload (approximately 16 hours a week of teaching alone), but also a degree of responsibility going far beyond just instruction, as the curriculum and academic foundation put in place in the next academic year will be the cornerstone of AT University for years to come.
Specifically, we are looking for people that: -Have excellent command of English and a Bachelors Degree or higher -Have some teaching experience or have majored in an IT-related area -Are proficient in Linux (as a software development platform), Python and Java. Knowledge of any other platfroms or languages (especially Android and C++) would be a significant added advantage. -Have experience working with the above or an advanced degree that covered these technologies -Are adaptable and mentally tough (preferably with some experience living in the developing world) as this region is one of the least developed places in the world and living here can be very daunting to a Westerner.}}}
