SNV program in Kenya is organized in 3 sectors combined with multidisciplinary portfolio teams of about 8 core advisors each.

SNV Kenya has three portfolio offices based in South Rift (With an
office in Nairobi), Northern Kenya (With an office in Nanyuki) and North Rift (With an office in Eldoret).


Our clients include government, private sector, farmer groups and NGOs. SNV Kenya has a track record in the development of rural enterprises and market systems especially in the ASALs, all these programmes are about improving rural incomes and livelihoods through
strengthening of different markets systems to catalyse businesses, trade and services.


As a result of growth, SNV is looking for qualified livestock specialist(s) for different ASAL programs.


Key function/Responsibilities

  • The Livestock Specialist, who reports to the COP, is expected to play a lead role interacting with key implementing actors and other development partners and shall be responsible for all livestock development matters that, among others, include: improved livestock productivity, animal nutrition, animal health, breeding, and livestock marketing.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years or more work experience of practical experience in livestock development, including livestock marketing and processing. Previous experience working in Kenya or East Africa strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years managing or evaluating livestock development programs in the Horn of Africa, especially in the pastoral areas.
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with an additional 7 years’ experience to the required minimums above. Fields of discipline and experience will be in areas such as animal science, range management, livestock marketing, dairy/meat processing, agribusiness management and pastoral livestock systems.
  • Due to the challenging environment of the project area, including security concerns and unique socio-cultural factors the Livestock Specialist should be a Kenyan National.

Contract Duration

2 years with possibility for extension
