Civil Project Engineer at Summit Engineering, Inc.


Summit Engineering, Inc. has an excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer in our Civil Engineering Division. Summit is a Consulting Engineering firm established over 35 years ago and located in California’s beautiful Sonoma County wine country. In addition to being the leading provider of design services for winery projects, we are also involved in design for custom residential, municipal, commercial, and resort projects.

Summit Engineering, Inc. is looking for an ambitious, motivated and experienced engineer with a background in site development engineering. They will be expected to manage many tasks in a fast-paced environment. We work on some of the most interesting and complex projects, side-by-side some of the best people, clients and design consultants alike. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work on multi-disciplined teams with our structural, electrical and water/wastewater divisions.

The Job
This position is responsible for complex and unique assignments, working on project teams in which education, training, and experience are used to solve problems and engineer designs. The Civil Project Engineer works with a Project Manager to accomplish tasks associated with the project. They work independently to plan, execute, and oversee engineering tasks in order to complete a project.

The Project Engineer:
• Prepares engineering analysis, design, and calculations for a portion or all of a project.
• Designs grading and drainage for site improvements.
• Designs utility piping systems.
• Performs hydrology and hydraulic calculations for gravity and pressure piping systems and above ground conveyances.
• Works with dynamic design teams including landscape architects, land use planners, attorneys, owners, winemakers, and facility managers.
• Prepares project drawings, calculations, and specifications.
• Prepares proposals and fee estimates on projects of limited scope and complexity.
• Performs construction assistance related tasks including responding to RFI (Request for Information), visiting job site, reviewing submittals, and coordinating with design team for revisions.
• Familiar with all aspects of construction document preparation and capable of independently making design decisions and preparing the construction document package.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
• BS Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 4-5 years engineering experience showing progressively increasing responsibility.
• California P.E. is desired, or in process of obtaining.
• California E.I.T. / F.E. certification.
• Ability to work on several projects concurrently.
• Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D. The candidate should be familiar with the capabilities and operations of Civil 3D for building surfaces, performing grading, laying-out utilities, building corridors, and cutting profiles and sections.
• Proficient with the use of computers including spreadsheets, word processing, and engineering software and ability to prepare electronic design calculation documents.
• Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively on a project team.
• Ability to plan ones’ own time and manage the time of others, as needed. Demonstrates good time management skills.
• Ability to problem solve, complete assigned tasks efficiently, and exercise sound engineering judgment.
• Ability to teach and mentor other staff members.
Valid California Driver’s License.
• Eligible to work in the United States.
