Greenpeace Turkey is looking for a legal campaigner to support its
efforts against new coal investment.

Purpose
Identify opportunities to advance Greenpeace's anti-coal movement objectives through legal tools. Establish a lawyers network that will support local oppositions against destructive energy investments. Advise Greenpeace's energy team on long-term development of environmental legislative work. Recruits and organizes volunteer efforts, evaluates legislation, maintains government and political contacts, makes strategic recommendations.
Responsibilities
• Plans, coordinates and implements the legislative strategies for the campaign
• Monitors, studies and researches proposed legislation to determine possible effects to the environment and makes appropriate recommendations
• Confers with legislators and officials to emphasize weakness or merits of specific laws to influence passage, defeat, or amendment of measure, or introduction of new legislation
• Prepares court cases for Greenpeace or supports court cases for local networks to stop dirty energy investments
• Contacts and meets with other individuals and groups having similar positions in order to rally support for court cases, law proposals and amendments, initiatives, etc.
• Plans and coordinates meetings between members and officials to discuss legislative issues and proposals and allow for officials to address member concerns
• Assists the people campaign coordinator and communications officer in preparing press releases and communicates with the media Greenpeace’s view on specific legislation
• Participates in the development of informational materials in regards to the Greenpeace legislative efforts
• Assists in the formulation of grassroots campaign and coalition activities in support of legislation at the local and national level
• Identifies specific law cases that will create environmental and social precedent for specific energy investments
• Ensures compliance with campaign requirements
• Works with Greenpeace staff and volunteers to ensure there is a consistent, clear legislative message that is being communicated to the public
• Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
• B.A./B.S. degree in Law (Corporate/Administrative law is of additional value)
• Preferably, degree in additional environmental studies, political science or a closely related field
• At least 1-2 years experience as a lawyer in Turkey
• 1-2 years NGO experience, public speaking and campaigning is preferred
• Advanced in written and spoken English
• Prior experience and effectiveness in lobbying preferred
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Clear understanding and knowledge of the legislative process
• Demonstrated public speaking and media presentation ability
• Demonstrated ability to read and analyze legislation
• Demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with local groups/people
• Commitment to Greenpeace’s core values in response to environmental and peace issues through non-violent direct action-led campaigning in line with its mission.
