Programme Manager, Brazil, Thomson Reuters Foundation

Thomson Reuters Foundation, the charitable arm of the world’s leading provider of news and information, is committed to empowering people in need around the world with trusted information and free legal assistance. Its initiatives stand for better governance, greater transparency, more effective humanitarian relief and a robust global press (www.trust.org).
The Foundation is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic individual to expand its award winning TrustLaw Connect service in Brazil and South America. TrustLaw is a global marketplace for pro bono that links the best NGOs and social entrepreneurs in the world with the best law firms. Our rapidly expanding network of members includes over 750 leading NGOs and social enterprises and 270 law firms and in-house legal teams. Over 500 legal teams have already worked pro bono on our projects.
We have a strong presence in Brazil already but recognise a huge potential for expansion of our services there and in neighbouring countries and plan to run a number of high profile programmes and events in the region. We are looking for the ideal candidate to lead these efforts.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding the TrustLaw service in Brazil and the region. This will include:
  • Mapping out and implementing strategies to expand the TrustLaw membership, making sure that we serve both the best NGOs and social enterprises, as well as the strongest law firms and corporate in-house legal teams
  • Identifying key social and environmental issues where TrustLaw’s network of law firms could be mobilised to assist. You may also be involved in the scoping and case handling of pro bono legal requests, as well as supporting the provision of other services the Foundation offers to our members
  • Organising member events and managing regular communications, marketing and PR to support the development of the TrustLaw service
  • Expanding the TrustLaw and AlertNet member presence across social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn
The candidate
  • We are looking for someone who understands the needs, challenges and best practises in the NGO and social enterprise communities, who may already have strong links and networks in that community
  • We would be particularly interested in candidates with a legal background but candidates with other relevant experience will also be considered. Someone educated to degree level, preferably with a Masters qualification, you will have at least 5 years working experience.
  • You may have lived/worked abroad or travel extensively, and would feel as comfortable representing and expanding TrustLaw in Brazil as in other countries in the region
  • You will be used to working with a diverse range of stakeholders, from senior corporate executives and partners of top law firms to social entrepreneurs, NGOs, and any other beneficiaries of our services
  • Demonstrated experience in developing communications plans and projects would be an asset
  • Capacity to work quickly under pressure, to juggle multiple tasks and requests simultaneously, to meet deadline requirements and to drive projects to completion
  • A high level of independence and initiative, self-motivated, with an ability to design your own agenda and take responsibility to advance and complete projects.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Portuguese, fantastic written communication skills and an ability to adapt messages to different audiences. We are looking for a clear communicator who can confidently present the Foundation and our work at high level meetings.
  • Additional languages, particularly Spanish, would be a plus
