BUSINES DEVELOPMENT MANAGER - Informa Telecoms Academy | United Kingdom

The Role:                                            
The Business Development Manager (BDM) will conduct business development activities in line with the overall Telecoms Academy business plan and current objectives. He / She will take responsibility for the business development and sales activity for a specific part of the customer base or portfolio, working closely with the marketing and training teams to maximise the success of public training programmes, whilst growing / developing customer-specific programme revenues.
Effective communication within the wider sales / business development team, with other Telecoms Academy and Informa staff, and with our customers is a key requirement.
The role will carry responsibility for identifying, assessing, and implementing new business development initiatives and ad-hoc opportunities, in close liaison with the Training Director, in order to fully exploit business opportunities, and maximise return on investment.
This role involves advising on the Telecoms Academy portfolio of courses and suitable training programmes, as well as exploring new areas of training-related business activity - with the aim of maximising long term revenue. Business Development plans are to be drawn up for key customers or campaigns, outlining all relevant training-related details, including the structure of the targeted companies, potential training budgets, training needs, and targeting strategy.
Any training solution must reflect the training needs of the customer, but also take fully into account the business strategy of the Telecoms Academy, drawing on the experience and expertise of the training staff when required. Consistency within each account is essential.
Some travel in the UK, Europe or World-wide for face to face meetings with customers will be required, as will attendance at some training events. In addition, attendance at Informa conferences may be required from time to time in support of sales and business development activity.
The BDM is to provide weekly updates to the Training Director, including forecast revenue, progress, priorities, and tasking for the Sales and Business Development Team. Delegate numbers for each public training event are to be included and monitored closely, and used to drive activity.
Specific tasks include:
  • Actively seek and identify new opportunities for developing the Telecoms Academy business, to include new sales channels, cooperation and coordination with other Informa sales and account teams, managing third-party sales channels, and contra deals with other organisations
  • Generating revenue by selling seats on public training courses, and by selling Telecoms Academy courses for In-House delivery - providing information on current and planned courses, together with written quotes when required (and following up as required)
  • Providing a full Account management service for key customers – identified by BDM and Training Director
  • Generating Business Development plans for key target companies / divisions, to include all relevant training-related information
  • Ensuring leads are followed up in a timely and pro-active manner
  • Liaising closely with the training team to ensure courses are relevant, achievable, and meet the expectation of the customer
  • Working closely with Informa Telecom and Media Sales / Account Management teams and other Informa staff to ensure effective and coordinated targeting of potential customers - including on-line and initiatives based on social networking
  • Keep appraised of developments within the Telecoms Industry, identifying business opportunities and developing strategies (in close liaison with the Training Director) to maximise the opportunities

  • Any other management task (functional or line) required for the proper and effective performance of this role and the wider requirements of the Telecoms Academy
Standard Hours of Work:
9:00 – 17:30 Daily
Different hours can be sanctioned by the Training Director if required to effectively carry out the role. Additional hours may be required, especially when attending conferences or training events. Time in lieu of the extra worked will be awarded in line with ITM policy.
